I feel like whenever I blog I tend to say the same things.....I woke up and didn't want to go to crossfit. haha But it's always the truth. It was a cold and dark morning and staying in my warm bed and catching some extra Zzzz's seemed much more appealing than putting on workout clothes and going to the gym.
I guess the good news is that I DID go and got my butt handed to me on a silver platter.
We started off with ladder drills. This was my 1st time doing them. They were actually kind of fun. They put a rope ladder on the ground and we had to do various things like jump squatting on each rung, or hopping in and out of the squares etc etc.
For the skill set we did 4 sets of 5 Turkish get-ups on each arm. After the 1st two rounds we did four 20 second plank holds, then more Turkish get-ups, followed by 4 more plank holds. My core, my legs, and my arms were shaking. My muscles were TIRED!
Our WOD was awful. I felt nauseous half way through. Thankfully I didn't get sick. In groups of two we did (all with weighted bar bells)
50 squat thrusters
20 walking lunges
50 overhead squats
20 walking lunges
50 back squats
20 walking lunges
My partner and I finished in 9:54
I just wanted to lie on the ground in my puddle of sweat and not move. I'm so so so tired!! That WOD was a fine line from my breaking point. I could feel myself get a little teary eyed towards the end, which always tells me that I hit my limit.
I'm going to take a long, warm, bubble bath and possibly a nap before the kids get home from school. I think I deserve it.

Went to the Dr. and the Dr. said....
I didn't get much sleep last night, and I woke up at 6:30 am and was wide awake. I started making a list of all the things that needed to get done today and I soon found myself trying to find ways to get out of going to crossfit. I told myself to shut up and I went to crossfit instead.
Yesterday was one of my very favorite workouts. Today was definitely one of the worst. No, I didn't cry....I know you were thinking it.
The warm up was done in teams of two. We had to do 20 meter bear crawls, 20 meter lunges, and 20 meter burpee long jumps. We did all those things twice. I was gasping for air by the end of the warm up. I'd much rather of just ran 400 meters because that was brutal.
The skill set was working on skull crushers, and hanging from the pull up bar in a "hollow" position and practicing font squat cleans. I started getting slightly dizzy during the skill sets. My body just didn't feel like it was cooling itself off very well. I felt overheated and a little sick to the stomach.
Our WOD was one I don't ever want to do again. Haha....seriously.
We did 90 seconds of burpees as fast as we could, then we had 90 seconds to catch our breath, then 60 seconds of front squat cleans as fast as we could and then we rested another 90 seconds. Next was 30 seconds of push ups as fast as we could and again rested for 90 seconds. We then did them all once more. Derek then told us he had a surprise for each and every one of us since we did so well. I'm always skeptical when it comes to "surprises". He told us we had to no another 90 second burpee AMRAP. Nooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a craptastic surprise! I was dead to the world when it was all over.
I'm SO SO SO happy that I get a two day weekend to rest and relax. I have ZERO plans on running this weekend. Three days of crossfit back to back was enough.
On another note.........I had to take my son to the Dr. because his ear has been hurting for the past week. Since it wasn't getting any better I figured it was time to take him in. I haven't seen our Dr. for about 6 months. Well the Dr. walked in the room and started asking some questions about my son and his ear when he looked up me. He all of a sudden stood up and said, "Erica, you look amazing! How much weight have you lost?". I told him I wasn't sure since our scale was thrown away, but that I've lost over 30 some odd inches in the last 4 months since starting CrossFit. He just went on and on about how I looked so radiant and healthy. I was a bit taken aback. I don't really feel a whole lot different but apparently I've changed a lot in the last 6 months since he last saw me. It felt awesome to have someone gush....especially my Dr! So anyway after he was done bathing me in compliments we got back to why we went there in the first place. =)
I still have a mountain of things I need to get done today, but had to quickly blog about what happened at the Dr.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Ohhh it BURNS!
Today was a butt kicker. I think I sweat more today than I ever have in my life. I'm exhausted, but need to get the kids some lunch and then I will be heading off to donate plasma. I need more money, YO!
Our wam up was line drills. Long jumps, lunges, inch worms, blah blah, blah back and forth across the gym.
Our skill set was various kettle bell moves and then practicing pistol squats.

I am no where near light enough or strong enough to do this move. I had to use the olympic rings to hold onto while practicing these hellish squats. These freaking BURN!
Our WOD was a 10 minute AMRAP.
5 pistol squats on each leg or for those who are not strong enough ( umm ME!) we did 20 lunges
7 kettle bell snatches with each arm
10 ab rollers
I love the kettle bell snatches. They make me feel strong and powerful. I hate lunges, they make me feel like I want to karate chop the trainers in the neck. The ab roller is SO much harder than it looks. We did them on Tuesday and my abs are still sore.
After our WOD we some other various moves and if we didn't do them properly we'd have to do burpees. Ummmmm we all owed burpees because we were so tired from the WOD. blah
I'm SO thankful it's Friday. I will run tomorrow and just rest and relax with my family on Sunday.

SHITEE
Yesterday was a very long, very exhausting day. I cleaned for several hours at my aunt's house. I seriously dislike cleaning houses, but it helps pay for crossfit so I can't really complain. As I was scrubbing the many toilets I just kept reminding myself that I was teaching my children a good lesson in working hard for what you want. My son had a friend spend the night, so after cleaning I had to google something to make for dinner that was kid friendly and gluten free, since his friend has a severe gluten intolerance. After dinner was made and cleaned up, we went and rented the kids a movie and took them out for ice cream. I didn't get to bed until close to midnight. I was up again at 6am because the kids were up and being noisy. I did not want to put on my workout clothes and go to crossfit. *yawn*
I did end up going after all. I'm glad I did. Our warm up was a 400 meter partner medicine ball run. I'd throw the ball to my partner who'd run about 10-15 in front of me. Once they caught the ball, I'd run 10-15 feet in front of them and they'd throw the ball to me. Back and forth, for 400 meters. It was actually kind of fun. =) Did I just say that?!?!
Our skill set was several rounds of various lunges, kettle bell exercises, and using the ab rollers.
The WOD was a 12 minute AMRAP (as many rounds/reps as possible).
We did 5 pull ups, 10 shitees, and 20 double unders. Over and over and over for 12 minutes.
Now I googled shittee's to see if I could find a good picture to demonstrate what they were and all I could find was was various info directly from my crossfit. So I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that it's a move or a name that my crossfit made up. I must admit, the name accurately describes how they make a person feel after doing them. Pretty dang shitty(ee). ;)
You stand up, bend over, and put your hands on the ground. You jump back with your feet into a push up position. Then you jump back up with your feet so they're on the outside of where your hands are on the ground, then you jump back again, then forward....over and over without standing up or resting. It was not easy to jump back and forth with my big behind. My arms were so tired trying to keep me up.
I was able to barely complete 6 rounds. Halfway through the AMRAP, Derek told me to do 30 single unders instead of the 60 single unders I was doing each round. Normally if the WOD says to do double unders and you are not physically able to do them, then they triple that number for single unders. So I did 60 for 3 rounds and my last 3 rounds I did just 30.
One of the gals I see working out when I'm there, came up to me today and told me that I did awesome today. She said I "killed the workout". That meant so much to me!!! I need to make more of an effort to tell others when I notice them doing awesome as well. We all need to hear it and we're all there for the same reasons.....to better ourselves. I'll be going again tomorrow and then again on Friday.
Would it be too terrible of me to put a movie on for the kids and take a teeny nap? I'm so so so tired!

Epic Meltdown
Today's WOD was labeled "Turrible"....in dedication to Charles Barkley. Anyhoo, today's workout was indeed terrible.
It was a total of 9 rounds.
First round was 9 sets of dumbbell thrusters, followed by lunges to the other end of the gym, then 9 box jumps, and lastly bear crawls back to the beginning.
2nd round was 8 sets, and so on and so forth. We got 20 minutes to try and complete all 9 rounds. Derek told our group (I was bunched with the two pregnant women) to start at 7 sets and go down to 1. After just the first couple of rounds my heart rate was sky high and I was finding it hard to catch my breath. By the time I finished my 5th round Derek asked me if I was feeling ok and I told him I was. I mean, I was exhausted, but all in all I was fine. I got down to the last round and the 20 minute mark was fast approaching. Meagan encouraged me to finish my bear crawl back to the beginning and I barely did it. At this point, my emotions just took over and I sat on my knees and just lost it. All the emotion from the last few days with my husband and the emotion from pushing myself past any limit I thought I had, just came pouring out of me.
I was so angry with myself. I HATE CRYING SO FLIPPING MUCH! Derek and Meagan pulled me outside so I could calm down. Derek thought I was crying because I pushed myself too far. It took a few minutes of me just explaining that it wasn't that. I was just proud of myself for doing something I've never ever ever done before! When things get hard, my entire life I've always quit. Literally every single time. For the first time in 33 years, I'm pushing myself despite how hard it is and I'm not quitting. That's extremely emotional for me. The girl who used to turn to cake or pasta when life got hard is now turning to working out and eating right. I finally convinced him and he went back inside. Meagan asked me how everything else in my life was going and I lost it again. I explain the situation with my husband and how I blame myself for his actions. I blame my fatness on him doing what he does. She was very understanding and gave me some great advice. I can't thank her enough. This journey I'm on is hard. I can't put into words just how hard it is.
I drove home and just sobbed the entire time. Once those floodgates were opened, it's hard to pull it back together. I'm exhausted physically and mentally today. I'm thankful that tomorrow I get a bit of a break and will be running instead of going to crossfit.
I will make this lifestyle change. I will become an athlete. I will succeed, I don't care how hard it is.

Less Is More
My grandmother's memorial was very beautiful. I'm sad she's gone from us but feel peace knowing she's with her Savior.
I didn't eat the best this weekend. I had my parents and sister over for dinner Friday night. We ate grilled chicken and sausages, a big green salad, a pasta salad, and for dessert we had pound cake with homemade strawberry and huckleberry sauce to drizzle over. Saturday was the memorial and I ended up eating a cookie and 2 pieces of cheese during the gathering afterwards. We skipped lunch and were all starving. Later in the evening my brother, sister and I all went out to eat. As we sat down we realized it was the first time all three of us had done anything together since becoming adults. How strange and sad. We had a good time. We ate delicious Greek food and finished off our meal with a square of baklava. Mmmmmm!! Do I feel guilty about not staying strictly Paleo.....not really.
Yesterday after church we took the kids and the dog and went on a 3 mile hike. It wasn't some sissy hike, it was an intense, fairly steep hike up to the top of a ridge and then a steep trek back to the bottom. It took us about 2 hours. We were all pretty wiped out. I was proud of the kids for making it all the way and I was proud of myself for sticking to it. About halfway up my husband suggested to turn around and go down and I told him that none of us are handicapped and have no reason why we couldn't complete the entire hike. I think he was surprised and pleased I kept going.
I did get to attend my CrossFit class today. HURRAY!!!! One of the trainers pulled me aside and asked if I did the burpee workout they emailed me. I told him I did and that I also added a smaller kettle bell workout to it and finished up with 25 more burpees. He looked a little frustrated and then told me that I was doing too much. He said that less was more and what I did wasn't necessary. I wanted to lift up my shirt and grab all my extra flab, shake it in his face and say, really?!?!?!? It sure feels necessary when I'm such a fattie still. I was a little hurt because I felt like I really pushed myself last week to get in some great workouts despite not being able to make it into class. I have a super hard time when people criticize how I do things. I tend to retreat inward and shy away from them. He wasn't mean about it, he was just upfront and straight to the point. Apparently when he tells me to do 50 burpees that's it.....I'm not to add or change the workouts given. I need to suck it up and and not let his critique damped my spirit. Now I know and I won't make that mistake again.
Today was hard. We started off doing various types of lunges, most of which I'd never heard of before. One was called the spider-man lunge.....it was definitely my favorite.
We did lunges back and for across the gym for about 5 full minutes. My legs were burning and quivering by the end. Next we split up and did the skill sets. The advanced group went with Jonathan and the rest went with Megan. Megan had us grab a set of bars that were about 8 inches off the ground. We were to hold onto them and lift our bodies off the floor for 10 seconds and then rest for 20 seconds. I wasn't able to lift my entire body off the floor. My heels still touched, but I at least was holding about 75% of my body weight off the floor. We did that over and over and over and over. I don't know how many rounds we did. It felt like an eternity. Next we grabbed kettle bells and did 10 rounds of 8 squats while holding the bell to our chests and then 5 kettle bell rows with each arm.
By the end I looked like I dunked my head under water. Sweat was pouring off my face and my hair was matted and sticking to my wet face and neck. All my muscles were shaky and burning. It's only because others were there and I had accountability that I didn't leave and go home at that point. I didn't want to do the WOD, I was flippin' tired!!
We had about a 5 minute break and then started our WOD. We started off with 2 minutes of burpees and then did 3 rounds of
10 push ups
10 box jumps ( I did box step ups)
10 kettle bell swings over head
and then we finished off with another 2 minutes of burpees.
Those last two minutes of burpees felt like a living hell. My body is so heavy that going to the floor and back up over and over is absolute torture! I finished though and was super glad I didn't cry even though I felt like it. I just wanted to sit in the corner and bawl my eyes out. Afterwards we all did a cool down while rolling our muscles out on some foam rollers. I caught one young gal looking at me. I actually caught her several times. I immediately looked down away from her eyes, I don't like people looking at me. I looked down at my legs and saw just how fat my thighs were. Was she looking at me because I am a fattie? I always assume the worst case scenario. Oh well. I'm not there for them, I'm there for me. I'm anxious to start seeing some big results in my weight and size. Is it too much to ask to just wake up tomorrow and be thin? Hehe
What I'm eating today:
Breakfast~chocolate protein shake
after workout~turkey vegetable soup
Lunch~salad with homemade dressing and grilled chicken
Dinner~paleo stuffed peppers and sweet potato fries
