Felt great this morning. I got lots of much needed sleep and woke up feeling energized and roaring to go. It's also a gorgeous Fall day. Clear blue sky, a light crisp wind and gorgeous Fall colors everywhere you look.
Our warm up was a partner medicine ball run. We used a 15 pound ball and would throw it to our partner, then run ahead about 10 feet and they throw it back. We did that for 300 meters and then we switched to squatting and then springing up and throwing the ball to our partner and then running ahead back and forth for the last 100 meters.
Our skill set was a KILLER!!! We were told to grab two kettle bells, they didn't have to be the same weight. I grabbed a 25 lb bell and an 18 lb bell. We went outside and started walking. J (Jonathan) told us to raise our right arm all the way up and lock out the elbow. We walked about 20 feet and then switched arms. Next we held both bells up by our chins and did squats. Deep squats and then we'd stand up, over and over for a couple minutes. Next we held both bells up above our head and walked about 100 meters. Then we stopped and did kettle bell swings with both bells at the same time. My arms and lungs were burning so bad! We then started walking again, alternating arms above the head. Next we did about 100 meters of lunges with the bells. Finally we were told to just do a farmers carry for an additional 200 meters and then go inside for the WOD. Even though it's COLD outside, I was pouring sweat. I was regretting the size bells I chose.....although I was able to complete the skill set, so I guess I should be pleased.
The WOD was done with a partner.
10-1 reps (so we'd each to 10 of each move, then 9 of each move, then 8 then 7 and so on and so forth until you get down to 1 each.
They gave us 20 minutes to complete it.
The exercises were
*thrusters
*pull ups
*hand release push ups
I felt great going into the workout. I was fast. My partner is a gal who is fairly new and is slower than me. Although she's stronger than me in some areas, she's also slower. If the WOD was completed then we'd have done a total of 55 of each of the moves. We weren't able to get the last three rounds in before time was up. So we finished 49 of each of the moves. It was ok. I know I could've finished the WOD with a faster partner, but all in all it was not a big deal. We all got in an amazing workout and we tried our best and that it what it's all about.
They're offering a new class on Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30 called Hearts and Barbells. All I know is that it has something to do with lots of heavy lifting. I'm going to go tomorrow evening to check it out. I'm a little nervous since the 9:30 am class in my safe bubble. I know the people that go and I feel comfortable with them now. I'm guessing there will be a ton of people I don't know attending this new class and that makes me really nervous. Eeeek!

Stronger than my husband?!?!
On Saturday my husband asked if we could do a crossfit style workout in the garage together. Although he's still slim, he's lost a lot of muscle since we got married and has replaced it with a soft belly. He still looks quite slim in his clothes, but I can tell a huge difference in his body composition between now and when we got married 11 years ago.
Anyhoo so we go out into the garage and since we have only a kettlebell, I came up with a workout that would use mostly our body weight.
We did 5 rounds of:
20 jump squats
25 push ups
30 second plank
30 kettlebell swings
Half way into the 2nd round he had to stop. He said he couldn't catch his breath and his arms and legs hurt too bad. I told him to catch his breath and then to keep going. I continued the workout while he sat down and watched me. During my 5th round he got back up and finished his 2nd round and then a 3rd. By that time he stopped and said he couldn't do anymore.
I must say that it felt freaking amazing to see myself beat him. Now I know that if he actually started working out on a regular basis, he'd surpass me in very little time. For the time being, I'm going to relish in my accomplishments. I can tell it hurt his ego a bit. What guy would want to admit that his obese wife beat him in a workout? After a few hours he came up to me and gave me a big hug and told me he was proud of me. ♥ Little things like that make it all worth it.
Today was a good day at crossfit.
Our warm up was:
20 meter bear crawl
20 meter crab walk
3 minutes AMRAP burpees
I felt dead to the world after the burpees. Haha
The skill set was two rounds:
7 right handed kettlebell snatches and 7 windmills
7 left handed kettlebell snatches and 7 windmills
1 minute native squat
15 kettlebell sit ups (those were freaking HARD)
10 two second squat box jumps
The WOD was an 8 minute AMRAP:
5 hang power snatches
50 double unders or (150 single unders)
15 push ups
I was able to complete exactly 3 full rounds in those 8 minutes
I'm going to make myself a paleo turkey taco salad with homemade guacamole for lunch. I'm starving! ;)

Death by kettlebells
Today's WOD kicked my rear oh so bad. We did a 9 minute warmup. The goal was to use kettlebells constantly for 9 solid minutes...no stops or breaks. I was wishing I'd grabbed a lighter bell within 60 seconds of the warmup. My upper arms were on fire!
For a skill set we did dead lifts. Although I was able to deadlift 150 lbs last week, Derek had me keep the weight at 115lbs so I could concentrate on form. I was hoping to see if I could of add more weight than last week, but alas I suppose form is far more important at this point. Wrong form equals injuries and I definitely want to steer clear of those.
Our WOD was 12 minutes AMRAP (as many rounds/reps as possible)
15 American kettlebell swings
12 hand release pushups
9 box jumps
It doesn't look hard. It doesn't sound hard. The first two rounds weren't hard. Once I started my third round I wanted to die. Dying would be less painful that what I was doing. haha I was able to just finish 6 rounds when the 12 minutes were up. We had to write our scores on the board. I didn't come in dead last, but I believe I was 2nd to last AND I did box step ups instead of jumps. It's so hard to jump very high when you have lots of extra weight literally weighing you down. Oh well. Someday I'll get there, right?!
I've been slacking a bit with Paleo eating. I haven't been totally off the wagon, but I definitely need to clean up my eating and get back on 100%. I feel so much better when I do and my energy is through the roof.
My inlaws are coming to visit in about 7 weeks. I get so much anxiety when they visit. I love my father in law dearly, but my mother in law is a monster. She's so incredibly mean and rude. She's loud, obnoxious and likes to cut me down. She makes comments on my weight every year they visit. She asked me a couple years ago if her son even loved me anymore because I'd gotten so fat. Who does that? I'm a quiet person by nature and hate to "rock the boat". I've never really stood up for myself where she's concerned. That crap isn't going to fly this year. I feel strong mentally and I'm stronger physically. I know I'm doing something good for my health and if she says anything, I'm going to put her in her place. That being said.....I'm still feeling super anxious.
Note: The gal is this picture is not me.

I want my mommy!
My husband woke me up at 5am as he was leaving for work to let me know our daughter had a temp of 103. Seriously? I'm starting to wonder if she is licking the handles of grocery carts and door knobs, because I swear she's been getting sick nonstop for the past few months!! Guess it's another day of crossfit at home.
After I got my boys off to school, I took my daughter and ran to Walmart to get some fever meds and decided to see if they carried kettle bells. They did!! I bought a 15 lb bell and when I got home I went online and found a few at home crossfit type workouts to do at home.
Todays warm up consisted of 3 rounds of:
25 jumping jacks
10 push ups
10 squats
My WOD was 5 rounds of :
10 right hand kettle bell snatches
10 left hand kettle bell snatches
10 right hand kettle bell swings
10 left hand kettle bell swings
10 sit ups
It took me about 14 minutes to finish. I was sweating bullets by the 4th round. It's a gorgeous day here, maybe after the older kids get home from school I can take a quick 1 or 2 mile walk while they keep an eye on their sister and do their homework.
What I'm eating today:
Breakfast~ham and egg scramble
post workout snack~coconut milk protein shake
Lunch~large salad with pork tenderloin and homemade dressing
Dinner~homemade paleo spaghetti meat sauce over spaghetti squash and a side salad
evening snack~1 square of dark chocolate and a cup of tea
I'm totally digging the Endangered Species chocolate at the moment.

Psyched Myself Out
So my plan is going to CrossFit MWF.....and getting a nice walk in on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I found out that my CrossFit posts the daily WOD online so you can see what is in store for that day. I woke up and got online and saw that it was mainly running stuff today. Bleh! I know that running is definitely something that I need to be working on, but OMGoodness it's so hard to run when you have ninety pounds of fat strapped to your body.
I hate that I psyched myself out. I suppose I shouldn't even look online to see what the workout is, because truly it doesn't matter. I need to do it, no matter how much I might hate it. Since I shucked out of going to CrossFit I decided to go online and find a WOD I could do at home where I wouldn't need any type of equipment. I found one and boy did it kick my booty!
The warm up was 3 rounds
50 jumping jacks
10 push ups
10 air squats
I took a 5 min break in between the warm up and workout. I got some water, opened up some windows to get a slight cross breeze throughout the house to help me cool off a bit.
My WOD was 4 rounds:
25 push ups
20 lunges w/ each leg
15 sit ups
10 air squats
5 burpees
60 second planks
This ended up being much harder than it looked. Halfway through my brain tried to convince myself that just doing 2 rounds was good enough. I stood in my living room arguing with myself and I ended up finishing all 4 rounds. I was thoroughly worn out.
My husband called me this afternoon to see how my workout went and he was a little ticked I didn't make it to class. He reminded me just how much it costs and that I need to go no matter how much I hate running. He's right. I need to go.
I still feel like I'm in a bit of a "funk" since last Friday's workout. I think it was so hard that it scared me and then seeing how much running there was to do today, I let that fear keep me from going to class. I told my husband at the very beginning that I was tired of letting fear rule my choices in life and here I catch myself doing it again.
I suppose we all have setbacks along the journeys we take. I will go on Wednesday and will give it 100% no matter how much I may hate it.
What I ate today:
Breakfast~eggs, turkey sausage
post workout snack~chocolate protein shake
Lunch~salad w/ grilled pork and homemade oil/vin dressing
Dinner~paleo sloppy joe stuffed peppers, sauteed french green beans, side salad w/ homemade oil/vin dressing.

Yumm!!!
